How to download and install Threads

It takes about two minutes. Choose your device:

  1. Open the App StoreTap the App Store icon on your iPhone, or use the button on this page.
  2. Search for "Threads"Tap Search and type Threads.
  3. Check the developerMake sure it says Instagram, Inc. under the name - that's the real app.

Troubleshooting

Can't download Threads? Quick fixes

"This app is not compatible with your device"
Your phone's software is too old. iPhone needs iOS 16.3 or later and Android needs 9.0 or later. Update in Settings → General → Software Update (iPhone) or Settings → System → Software update (Android). If your phone can't update, use threads.com in its browser.
I can't find Threads in my app store
Search for "Threads" and check the developer name. Threads isn't available in every country - if it doesn't appear, it may not be offered where your store account is registered. You can still try threads.com in a browser.
The download is stuck or won't start
Check you have enough free storage and a stable connection, then pause and resume the download. Restarting your phone fixes most stuck downloads. More fixes in our install problems guide.

Make sure the app is up to date and you're using the right Instagram or Threads login. See our login problems guide for step-by-step fixes.

Is the Threads app free?
Yes. Threads is free to download and use on iPhone, Android and the web. Optional paid extras, such as Meta Verified, exist but aren't needed to post, follow or message.
Do I need Instagram to download Threads?
No. You can sign in with Instagram to bring over your profile and follows, or create a standalone Threads profile without an Instagram account.
Is there a Threads app for PC or Mac?
On a computer, use threads.com in any browser - nothing to install. The web version includes posting, feeds, search and direct messages.
Is there a Threads app for iPad?
The App Store lists Threads for iPhone. On iPad, the easiest way is threads.com in Safari - tap Share → Add to Home Screen to open it like an app.
Should I download a Threads APK?
No. Download Threads from Google Play instead. APK files from other websites can be outdated, modified or contain malware, and they won't update automatically.
What do I need to run Threads?
An iPhone with iOS 16.3 or later, an Android phone with Android 9.0 or later, or any modern web browser for threads.com. You also need to meet the minimum age of 13 (older in some countries).
