Run a personal profile and a business one? Threads lets you add several profiles to the app and switch between them without logging out. Here's how to add a profile, switch in a second on your phone, handle more than one account on a computer, and avoid posting from the wrong one.
Pick where you are. Menu labels can vary slightly by app version.
You can only switch to profiles you've added. Each one needs its own login - usually its own Instagram account, or an email or phone number where standalone sign-up is available.
In the app's bottom bar.
At the bottom of the profile sheet.
Use its Instagram login - or email or phone if it's a standalone profile.
If that account has never used Threads, create the profile: name, photo, bio.
Hold the profile icon again to move between profiles.
A practice version of the Threads app. Press and hold the profile icon (or tap "Hold"), switch profiles, add one, and watch the "posting as" check. Nothing connects to Threads.
On threads.com, switching is less smooth than on your phone. If your menu doesn't offer a profile switcher, these work well.
Chrome, Edge and Firefox let you create separate profiles. Log in to one Threads account in each and keep both open.
Best for regular useOpen a private / incognito window for the second account. You'll be logged out when you close it.
Best for a quick checkUse Safari for one account and Chrome for the other.
Simple, no setupConnect each profile to one dashboard to plan and publish posts.
Best for brands & clientsManaging several brand or client profiles? A Threads scheduling tool lets you post to each one from a single dashboard.
Switch to it, then Settings → Log out. It disappears from the switcher on this device.
Settings → Log out of all profiles - handy before handing your phone to someone.
Check notification settings on each profile so you know which one an alert is for.
Use clearly different profile photos so you notice which account is active.
Each profile has its own privacy settings - a private personal profile and a public business one is common.
For a brand, add the profile to your Meta business portfolio rather than sharing a password.
Update Threads to the latest version and try again. Make sure you hold the profile icon, not the feed or compose icons.
Check the other account's login works on its own. If it uses Instagram, log in there first.
It was probably logged out. Hold the profile icon → Add profile and log in again.
Notifications show for profiles logged in on the device. Log out of ones you don't need, or adjust each profile's notifications.
Use a separate browser profile or private window for the second account.
That's expected - Threads has its own profile list. Switch inside Threads.
