    How to edit

How to change each part of your Threads profile

In the app: go to your profile and tap Edit profile. On threads.com: open your profile and click Edit profile. Menu names can vary slightly by version.

    📷Profile photo

Edit profile → tap your photo → choose a new picture, or import the one from Instagram.

💡 Use a clear face or logo that still works when tiny.
    🪪Name

Usually comes from your Instagram name. Some accounts can now set a Threads-only display name, with limited changes (for example, twice in 14 days).

💡 Use the name people would search for.
    @Username

Change it in Instagram: Profile → Edit profile → Username. Threads updates to match.

💡 Old usernames can be held for a while, so pick carefully.
    ✍️Bio

Edit profile → Bio. Up to 150 characters, separate from your Instagram bio.

💡 Say what you post about and why someone should follow.
    🔗Links

Edit profile → Links → Add link. Add up to 5.

💡 Put your most important link first.
    🏷️Interests

Edit profile → Interests. Add up to 10 topics.

💡 Match them to the topics you actually post about.
    🔒Private profile

Edit profile → Private profile, or Settings → Privacy.

💡 Private limits who can find and follow you.
    📌Pinned post

On your post, tap ••• → Pin to profile.

💡 Pin an intro post or your best-performing post.

Meta has been testing more ways to make Threads profiles independent from Instagram, such as a Threads-only display name. If you see an option in Edit profile that isn't described here, it's likely a newer rollout.

    Profile tips

Tips for a profile people want to follow

    🔍Be findable

Use the name people search for, and mention your topic in your bio.

    🎯Promise something

Tell visitors what they'll get: tips, behind the scenes, deals, stories.

    👇Point to one action

"New mugs every Friday ↓" beats a list of five links with no reason to click.

    🖼️Test your photo small

Your photo shows tiny next to every post. High contrast and simple wins.

    🏷️Pick 3–10 interests

Choose topics you post about, so visitors know what to expect.

    📌Pin an intro post

Pin a short "who I am and what I post" thread for new visitors.

    FAQ

    Threads profile FAQ

How do I edit my Threads profile?
Go to your profile in the Threads app and tap Edit profile, or click Edit profile on your profile at threads.com. From there you can change your photo, bio, links, interests and privacy.
How long can a Threads bio be?
Up to 150 characters, including spaces and emojis. Your links are added separately and don't count toward the limit.
How many links can I add to my Threads profile?
Up to five. Insights shows how many clicks your links get.
Can my Threads username be different from my Instagram username?
For most accounts your Threads username matches your Instagram username, and you change it in Instagram. Meta has been testing more independent Threads profiles, including a separate display name, so check Edit profile for the options you have.
Does changing my Threads bio change my Instagram bio?
No. Your Threads bio is separate from your Instagram bio, so you can write one specifically for Threads.
How do I add interests to my Threads profile?
Tap Edit profile, then Interests, and add up to 10 topics. People can tap an interest on your profile to see related posts.
How do I make my Threads profile private?
Turn on Private profile in Edit profile or in your privacy settings. Only followers you approve will see your posts.
