Brief glitches clear up in a few minutes.

    02⬆️Update the app

Old versions can stop logins working.

    03📶Switch network

Try mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, or the other way round.

    04🛡️Turn off VPN

VPNs and some DNS filters can block the login.

    05🕐Auto date & time

A wrong clock breaks security codes and logins.

    06🧹Clear cache

Removes stuck data without deleting your account.

    07🔁Restart device

    Fixes more than you'd think.

    08📷Test Instagram

If Instagram fails too, fix that login first.

    Is it down?

Is it you, or is Threads down?

Answer three quick questions to tell a problem with your account or device from a wider outage.

    1. Does Instagram work for you right now?
    2. Does Threads fail on another device or network too?
    3. Are other people reporting Threads problems right now?

Threads and Instagram share one login

Your Threads profile is connected to an Instagram account. If Instagram has a problem, Threads usually does too, so fix Instagram first.

    Security codes

Not getting your two-factor or login code?

    📧Email code

Check spam and promotions folders. Make sure your email in Accounts Center is current.

    💬SMS code

Check blocked or filtered messages, signal and roaming. Carriers can delay texts for a few minutes.

    📲Authenticator app

Codes change every 30 seconds. Turn on automatic date and time, then use the current code.

    🧾Backup codes

The 8-digit codes you saved when setting up two-factor. Each works once.

    ✅Approve on another device

If you're logged in elsewhere, approve the login request there.

Codes expire quickly. Always use the newest one, and never share a code with anyone - Meta staff will never ask for it.

    Hacked account

    Think your account was hacked?

Signs: your password or email was changed, you got a "new login" or "email changed" alert you didn't expect, or posts appear that you didn't make.

    1. Check your emailLook for a message from Instagram or Meta about the change. It often has a link to secure your account or reverse an email change.
    2. Use the official recovery pageGo to instagram.com/hacked in a browser and follow the steps. It covers hacked, lost-access and changed-email cases.
    3. Verify it's youYou may be asked for a code, a selfie video or ID. Only do this on instagram.com or in the official app.
    4. Secure everythingSet a new strong password, turn on two-factor with an authenticator app, and review Accounts Center → Password and security → Where you're logged in.
    5. Check ThreadsDelete posts or replies you didn't make, and review your bio links in case they were changed.
    Suspended

    Account suspended, disabled or locked?

    Locked

    "Your account has been locked"

Usually a security check after unusual activity. Follow the on-screen steps to confirm it's you - often a code or a selfie video - and you'll be back in.

    Suspended

    Suspended or disabled

The notice explains why and how long you have to appeal. Use the Disagree or appeal option in the notice. Read the guidelines and settings so it doesn't happen again.

    Limited

    Temporarily limited

Too many follows, likes or posts in a short time can trigger a temporary limit. Wait it out (often 24-48 hours) and slow down. Don't use automation tools that break the rules.

Don't create a new account to get around a suspension - it can make things worse. If your Threads profile was suspended but Instagram works, check Threads notifications and your email for the notice.

    Recovery routes

Where to go for each login situation

Use official routes only. Recovery always happens in the Instagram or Threads app, or on instagram.com.

    🧩
    Disable extensions

Ad blockers, privacy and script blockers can break the login popup. Try a private window.

    🪟
    Allow popups

If "Continue with Instagram" does nothing, allow popups for threads.com.

    ⬆️
    Update browser

Use a current Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox.

    🕐
    Fix your clock

A computer clock that's off by minutes can make security codes fail.

    FAQ

    Threads login FAQ

Why can't I log in to Threads?
The most common reasons are a problem with your Instagram login, an outdated app, a missing two-factor code, stuck app or browser data, or a temporary outage. Start with the troubleshooter on this page, which gives fixes for your exact problem.
Do I use my Instagram password for Threads?
Yes. Threads uses your Instagram username and password. If you change your Instagram password, use the new one on Threads too.
How do I reset my Threads password?
Reset your Instagram password: tap "Forgot password?" on the Instagram or Threads login screen, or use Instagram's password reset. Your new password works for both.
Why does Threads say "Sorry, something went wrong"?
It's usually temporary. Update the app, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, restart your phone, and try again in a few minutes. If it keeps happening, clear the app's cache or reinstall it.
What does "Please wait a few minutes before you try again" mean?
You've tried to log in too many times in a short period, so logins are paused for a while. Stop retrying, wait - sometimes a few hours - then try once on a different network. Don't keep requesting codes, as that can extend the wait.
    Is Threads down right now?
If Instagram also fails, other people report problems, and the error appears on different devices and networks, it's likely a wider outage - wait and try later. If only your account is affected, use the troubleshooter on this page.
I'm not getting my login code. What can I do?
Wait a minute and request a new code, check spam and blocked texts, or tap "Try another way" to use an authenticator app, a backup code or a different method.
What should I do if my Threads account was hacked?
Check your email for a message from Instagram or Meta about the change, then go to instagram.com/hacked and follow the steps. Afterwards, set a new password, turn on two-factor authentication and review where you're logged in.
